The drape forming process consists of, as the name suggests, draping a sheet of heated plastic over a male mold that is
two-dimensional or with large simple curves held down with the assistance of clamped edges. A slightly more sophisticated drape forming technique uses a combination of a male-female mold sandwiching the plastic sheet.

  DRAPE FORMING

Applications:
Drape forming is widely used for large panels that require retaining a simple non-flat shape as in curved display wall. Another useful application of this process is for the construction of wide sections of odd-shaped walls that will still retain overall even material thickness.

The tooling cost for this part was greatly reduced by using the drape forming technique for the vertical wall sections and the vacuum forming technique for the bezel top section.
